Paddy

Sadly I never got to meet Paddy. His owner's had some old photographs of him when he was a younger dog and that was all I had to work with. It can be a strange experience drawing an animal that has been lost, especially one that I haven't met. There is a point in every drawing I do when suddenly the personality kicks in. It may be the tiniest pencil mark that does it, and I never know when it will happen. When I was drawing Paddy, I had very little detailed information about his face. Yet the person that was Paddy suddenly jumped out of the drawing at me. It is an odd sensation, and although at the time I feel I have captured them, I am never fully at ease until the owner is in agreement!
