About Jenny Lupton
Horse, Dog and Cat Artist

When I was young, my greatest desire in life was to be around animals, especially horses, and becoming a veterinary surgeon seemed the ideal solution. Sadly, the niceties of higher physics (an essential qualification for vet school) escaped me. Hence a change of plan to what was second nature to me - drawing.

I graduated from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art in Dundee and was torn between pursuing a life riding and working with horses, or a life of drawing and painting them. Fortunately circumstances have allowed me to combine both, and I train and compete my own horses as a hobby, whilst my creative drive is fulfilled through drawing and painting as a career. I have been lucky enough to portray some incredible horses so far in my life, and feel honoured to have had the opportunity to meet them.

Some of my past commissions include a picture commissioned by the I.L.P.H. (International League for the Protection of Horses), an organisation devoted to the welfare of the working and sporting equine across the globe. Called the 'Pride of Scotland', it featured four top Scottish horses in their respective disciplines. LISNAMARROW, a showjumper shortlisted for the Olympic Games, FLYING ACE, winningmost point-to-point racehorse of all time, GLENBURNIE, European Gold medallist at Punchestown and ride of Ian Stark, and LUCIUS, winner of the Grand National. The picture is an annual prize at the Scottish National meeting at Ayr Racecourse in April. Another combination portrait was auctioned in Hong Kong for the charities R.D.A. (Riding for the Disabled) HK and a young persons' support group, K.E.L.Y. The Hong Kong Derby Winners from 1987-1994 was named 'Pride of the Derby' and raised a startling HK$300,000. The picture was bought by well known racehorse owner Ronald Arculli and donated to The Hong Kong Jockey Club. It now hangs in the prestigious Clubhouse at Sha-Tin Racecourse. Other HK horses include; SUPER FIT, LEPRACHAUN, LIFO, MASTER EAGLE, MOTIVATION, SAN DOMENICO, PINKIE LONG LEGS, and many more.

Back at home in the UK, sport horses commissioned include; KING WILLIAM, ridden by Mary King, Scottish Open Champion at Thirlestane Castle, and a team medallist for the European, Olympic and World Championships; DELTA, Thirlestane Castle Scottish Open Champion and World Championship ride of Blyth Tait, top rider in F.E.I. World rankings; WORD PERFECT, ride of Chris Bartle, winner of Badminton Horse Trials, Thirlestane Castle Open Championships, European team gold medallist at Burghley Horse Trials, second at Gatcombe Olympic Final Trials and shortlisted for Sydney 2000; FOREST GLEN, ride of Ian Stark, winner at Bramham ; BUNDABURG, ride of Clayton Fredericks, shortlisted for the Olympics; DALLIANCE, placed at Bramham and Badminton, JUST A MISSION, placed at Burghley and was the last ride of Mark Todd in the UK; JUST JEEVES, winner at Blair Castle International Horse Trials; and GRAND MARNIER, International ride of leading young rider Richard Davenport. Racehorses include BAY TERN,COQUI LANE, CEILIDH BOY, JIGTIME, DOUBLE TRIGGER, PAT'S JESTER, LEADING PROSPECT, NIGHT GUEST. I derive as much pleasure portraying horses and dogs that are so obviously cherished by their owners, despite the fact that they may never reach the heady heights of winning Badminton, Olympia or Crufts.
